How we perform best mentally is different from what most of us think—and the opposite of what our culture has been telling us and pushing us to do which is:

do as much as you can, all at once, all the time.

Research shows we can't focus on more than one thing at a time. Even if you think you are, what you're really doing is juggling thoughts—touching on one for a moment and then switching.

Studies have found that the more we try to "multitask," the more we risk impairing our cognitive control and even reduce our grey matter.

Not to mention, when we force ourselves to think about too many things at once and act with extreme speed, we increase the risk of making serious mistakes.

This episode offers several powerful tips on how to quickly improve your mental performance, instead of diminish it.

I got a potent reminder of this concept during the LA fires last month—I've included some of my personal stories here too.
